What to Do about Google

Suppliers of translation services often ask us, “What should we do about Google?” Each translation-related announcement that comes out of Mountain View – from Google’s involvement with the European Patent Organization to its recent experiment with automating the translation of poetry – generates plenty of industry discussion. We spoke with Tamar Yehoshua, Google Translate’s director of product management, to gain a deeper perspective on why Google is interested in machine translation, and what the company thinks will happen to human translation as time goes on.
