Translation Management Systems for LSPs
by Benjamin B. Sargent, Donald A. DePalma

Summary
This report provides a detailed model for LSPs to use when selecting technology vendors for shortlisting. We’ve structured the report to help prospective buyers think through the functional aspects of translation management and to ensure completeness of the resulting criteria. We’ve also included counsel to technology vendors in order to help them understand and overcome objections.

We describe software functions relating to 12 business needs commonly associated with the adoption of TMS; show how these functions appear in the user experience using over a dozen vendor screenshots; explain the background needed to build a shortlist of technology vendors based on the tech-savvy LSP typology; list 26 translation management solutions according to system orientation; contrast the point solution strategy versus adoption of comprehensive systems; and discuss issues of cloud deployment, interoperability, hyper-utility of language assets, and special considerations for second-stage deployments.
