The purpose of website globalization is to make online experiences available to visitors living in other countries or speaking other languages. In 2012, Common Sense Advisory visited 2,409 prominent websites of large enterprises, global brands, and popular online destinations (see “Multilingual Websites,” Oct12, and “Global Website Assessment Index,” Oct12). For this report we examined and scored all 176 websites in the larger sample that had 20 or more languages, our cutoff for the most globalized destinations. From this final list, we rank the top 100 websites based on our proprietary metric, the Global Web Score. The report also includes data on typical practices, screenshots, and explanation of best practices.
