Summary
Since 2008, Common Sense Advisory has ranked global websites by examining language coverage and ease of use for geolingual visitors – guests arriving from other countries or speaking a language other than the default offered by the site. This year, we streamlined the scoring process to put the emphasis squarely on continuity and consistency in global customer experience (Global CX).

In our recent research into the online customer experience on global websites, Common Sense Advisory examined a dozen common use cases where individuals seek to cross country or language barriers in pursuit of everyday information and transactions (see “Optimizing Global Customer Experience,” Mar14). That report shows how sites that lack an optimized Global CX exasperate visitors, limit customer access, and fall short of revenue and branding potential. It also defines best and worst practices for auto-navigation, meta-navigation, traditional navigation, language filters, and in-place machine translation (MT). These best practices form the basis for the scoring algorithms used in this year’s ranking.
