While most language service providers (LSPs) strive to land work from localization departments with big budgets and predictable volumes of large projects, the reality of the market is different. Most of the demand comes from smaller jobs – the ones that LSPs typically shy away from. However, Common Sense Advisory predicts that transactional translations will become the fastest-growing part of the market. This brief describes and analyzes: 1) what transactional translation is; 2) the opportunity for this type of translation; 3) why most LSPs don’t like it; 4) what LSPs need to do to make it economically feasible to pursue these types of projects; and 5) whether every LSP can succeed at handling transactional translation.
