As software firms progress along the localization maturity timeline, translation performance metrics play a more central role in the eyes of upper management (see "Accelerating Localization Maturity," Jan11). Their absence makes it almost impossible to evaluate – and more importantly, to fund – the language service function according to the same criteria as other corporate functions. This brief provides several metrics that can be used by software firms and their language service providers (LSPs) to build dashboards to support corporate compliance requirements: spending, volume, number of languages, number of projects, turnaround times, project size, scope of responsibility, job title, and team size.
