Software piracy – the illegal copying, distribution, or use of unlicensed applications – is a major global concern for IT-oriented enterprises. This brief considers the role of localization on piracy by determining per-language piracy rates for 129 languages we evaluated for inclusion in our research on online GDP. Knowing piracy levels helps as you plan to enter various language markets. International product managers can use this data to quantify localization ROI against expected piracy for localized versions.
