Summary
What does community translation actually cost? And what are the benefits? Only when these two questions are answered can a company determine whether it’s worth the time, trouble, and cost. To shed more light on costs and benefits, Common Sense Advisory interviewed 18 organizations with full-fledged community translation initiatives and selected five to present as case studies.

Within each case study, we review costs, benefits, and the major lessons learned. We also share some words of advice from the person responsible for each effort. We then provide an analysis of the most important issues, including factors to review when deciding whether community translation makes sense for your organization. We conclude with implications of what the future may hold for community translation.

In this report, buyers of translation and localization services will learn:
  • To weigh the costs and benefits of implementing community translations. Are you looking for data to support your first crowdsourcing initiative? Or perhaps you are not familiar with the pros and cons of such community translation. In either case, you will find this report useful.
  • To benchmark their current community translation program. Have you already integrated crowdsourcing into your translation strategy? Draw on this research to identify areas for improvement and innovation. At the same time, compare your efforts with those of other organizations, and learn how to assess the return on your crowdsourcing investment.
