Summary
On October 29, Lionbridge VP Didier Helin sent a mass-mailing to the company’s many contractors, which include freelancers and other language service providers (LSPs). Citing continuing economic woes, the letter “required” the contractors to give the company a 5% discount through the end of 2010. This e-mail lit up the tweetosphere and generated a torrent of blog posts and comments. Rather than rehash the debate, we polled providers to find how widespread the practice of asking for or requiring discounts is, and how that differs from the last time economic conditions drove such requests to lower rates.
