Common Sense Advisory Conducts Pricing Survey for Language Services
With companies looking to produce a greater variety of products, improve quality, accelerate time-to-market, and maintain or reduce costs, the trend of turning to outsourced vendors for translation and localization services continues to rise. But, what should buyers be paying and what are vendors charging? Common Sense Advisory, an independent research and consulting firm, gets to the truth about translation pricing in its latest report, “What Translation Costs.”

The report, which provides analysis based on a survey of 156 language service providers (LSPs), the review of a dozen requests for proposals, and interviews with 35 buyers and LSPs, offers both buyers and vendors of language services the tools they need to understand a complex marketplace. Buyers of language services can use the report as a guide to understand market dynamics, calculate the price ranges for different services, and determine what different price points mean in terms of service. Further, LSPs learn to position themselves in a buyer’s market relative to the buyer behaviors identified, while gaining access to empirical data on pricing.

The report identifies and provides insight on the following:

  • A buyer’s guide to pricing data for translation services – multiple languages surveyed.
  • Positioning to win in a competitive marketplace – is price all that matters?
  • Understanding quotes – what to offer…what to buy.
  • What services LSPs offer and how they charge for these services.

“What Translation Costs” is the latest in a series of reports focused on translation and localization services and the pricing of these services. Reports are available on a subscription basis to Common Sense Advisory clients. Visit www.commonsenseadvisory.com for more information.
