"What's going on there?" is our question. This past week LISA members woke up to a bizarre letter from a LISA board member, who divided members into two groups: 1) "One camp is a small minority of LISA members that can be characterized as people who say 'I am sure there is something improper and/or illegal going on in LISA's upper echelons (or, more specifically, with Michael Anobile and Alison Rowles)'" [LISA's executive director and his wife, who runs the marketing group supporting LISA's efforts, reportedly on a no-bid basis] and 2) "those who are with us" [our quotes this time] who see no impropriety -- or maybe we should call them the "silent majority."
The letter states that cowardly members of the first camp won't stand up and say what they think in public. From our recollections of LISA General Assembly meetings, that's plain wrong. And from what we've heard about e-mail exchanges among LISA insiders and discussions at General Assembly meetings, there's no shortage of public criticism. To us it sounds like pure spin from the Board member -- if you deny something often enough, it sticks (cf. "we never said weapons of mass destruction were the reason for the war").
